Roland Villeneuve „Satan among us“
Editions Marabout, 1973, Verniers, Belgium, pp. 192
Roland Vileneuve (1922-2003) was a French specialist in demonology and this first work of his that we read gave us the certainty that he was also a Great Theorician of Art since his work is full of references to the Renaissance art especially. It is true that we bought this very old book at the Chiré bookstore which is Christian. Yet the same author is commercialized today (3 books of his own) to „Camion Noir“ editions, a French publisher specializing in Satanism. So the bookstore „Chiré“ by commercializing its work shows open-mindedness. We put online the cover of the first edition „La Palatine editions“ in 1961. This second edition in a „pocket“ book published by Marabout has a very kitsch cover that we did not want to reproduce. It is very strange how the great author Villeneuve accepted this second cover but we have the suspicion that he was obliged by the new editors. Before writing to you our conclusion on this ancient work we will reproduce two paragraphs by an anonymous author: „Satanism can be considered as a rationalistic form which considers Satan as a higher state of consciousness by which human beings release their religious and moral inhibitions nowadays, very often. It is linked to indecent sexual practices and orgies, sometimes with sacrilegious desecration and demonstrations, which want to be the demonstration of a total freedom.
The practice of Satanism is old. It had its heyday at the end of the Middle Ages“ (copied by the English site „Terrificator“). The second paragraph adds some new interesting elements: „Here is a description of Roland Villeneuve’s“ Diabolical Universe ”: He has a manly, extremely hard and black cock, so big that I endured great pain; Satan’s cock is painful, cold as ice then extreme as fire; the sex of the devil is made with scales like a fish ... the devil’s member, if it were stretched out, would be 1m82 long ... it has the shape of a snake ... the devil has the sex of a mule ... the devil has the sex of a horn ... and so on ... „Don’t make a fool of these comments, they are only fantasies of delusional creatures tortured in lack of love and sex ... and there are thousands of reports written in the same way ... So, Satanism was practiced by poor wizards or miserable necromancers in the countryside, servants of blind forces, who tried to manipulate us. Sometimes Satanism was also practiced by certain abbots eager for indecent sexual acts which pitifully desecrated sacred things. „(Also copied by the previous site). Isn’t this a good example of the fetishist and sadomasochistic nights of our beautiful capital? And in order to give you an example taken from the work in question, we are going to reproduce this sentence: „This time consenting, the woman swoons with pleasure and in a gesture of love grasps the tentacles of the monster with both hands. Its formidable head eats her sex with delight „(op.cit. page 48). Do you think that this sentence of the first and second edition of Villeneuve’s work could have influenced Walerian Borowczyk for his cult film „The Beast“ produced in 1975? On the other hand, Villeneuve’s first edition dates from 1961, 14 years before!
